HHS’ Health Resources and Services Administration has awarded three contracts totaling $9.2 million to the Georgia Health Policy Center to support programs that use health IT and other strategies to promote access to health care in rural areas of the U.S., the Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.
GHPC is part of Georgia State University’s Andrew Young School of Policy Studies (Atlanta Business Chronicle, 3/10).
Under the contracts, GHPC’s Community Health Systems Development team will provide support to recipients of four HRSA grant programs that are administered by the agency’s Federal Office of Rural Health Policy. The grant programs are the:
- Delta State Rural Development Network;
- Rural Health Care Services Outreach;
- Rural Health Network Development; and
- Rural Health Workforce Development.
Organizations that participate in the grant programs often use the funds for health IT purchases and upgrades, chronic disease management and other initiatives aimed at improving health care in rural areas.
The GHPC team will support the grant recipients through a variety of training resources, including an interactive online database and webinars (Monegain, Healthcare IT News, 3/11).
